Empowering Youth for Gender Equality: Celebrating Youth Action and Creativity

The Empowering Youth for Gender Equality project in Alexandria brought together young people to explore equality, challenge stereotypes, and express themselves creatively. Led by Revivals Egypt. Supported by KidsRights and State of Youth Alexandria, this initiative combined workshops, dialogue circles, and hands-on activities, providing safe spaces where youth could engage openly, reflect critically, and collaborate with peers in a supportive environment.

Across multiple venues, including Goethe-Institut Alexandria, Flux Co-Working Space, and Daydream Alexandria Game Jam - participants engaged in a series of structured activities designed to explore and challenge gender norms. These included:

  • Gender equality workshops that examined how stereotypes shape expectations and limit opportunities for both girls and boys

  • Breaking stereotypes & non-traditional careers sessions, encouraging young people to consider all career paths based on interest and talent rather than gender

  • Gender dialogue circles, creating open forums where participants could share personal experiences, ask questions, and develop empathy for each other’s perspectives

  • Creative activities, including drawing, music, and collaborative projects, allowing participants to express their ideas on equality visually and experientially

These activities were intentionally designed to be interactive, engaging, and youth-led, ensuring participants were active contributors rather than passive attendees. Girls and boys explored confidence-building exercises, collaborative problem-solving, and imaginative reflection, experiencing firsthand what it means to thrive in a safe, inclusive space.

In parallel, a social awareness campaign extended the project’s impact online. Through posts, articles, and visual storytelling, young people shared their experiences and creative outputs with a broader community. This helped spark conversations about gender equality beyond the physical workshops, reaching peers, families, and community members, and highlighting that meaningful change begins with dialogue, creativity, and empowerment.

The project culminated in a visual showcase capturing highlights from all activities: workshops, dialogue circles, and creative outputs - celebrating youth leadership, innovation, and courage. From girls presenting ideas and playing music to collaborative drawings reflecting equality, the showcase demonstrates the tangible outcomes of youth engagement and the powerful impact of safe, inclusive spaces.

By participating in Empowering Youth for Gender Equality, young people learned to question restrictive norms, explore creative solutions, and envision a future where opportunities are not constrained by gender. The project also strengthened the capacities of youth organizers, empowering them to plan, facilitate, and lead activities which is a skill set that will continue to have lasting impact beyond the project itself.

Initiatives like this show that real change comes from youth-led action, creativity, and supportive communities. With young people at the center, projects that combine dialogue, expression, and reflection can break long-standing stereotypes, foster empathy, and inspire broader societal transformation.

Empowering Youth for Gender Equality is a demonstration of what is possible when young voices are heard, supported, and celebrated. proving that when given freedom and safe spaces, youth don’t just participate; they lead.
